Paul Keres (* 07.01.1916 Narva – † 05.06.1975 Helsinki) was an Estonian and Russian chess champion, and one of the strongest players of the 20th century. His image was shown on the banknotes of 5 Estonian kroons. Although he never became a world champion himself, he has broken a record by winning nine matches against former, sitting or future world champions, from Capablanca to Fischer.
