    Austria 2016: 200 years Austrian National Bank

    The coin shows two gods from Roman mythology, which can be found on the stone relief above the entrance to the National Bank: Left Mercury, the god of merchants and traders, right Fortuna, goddess of fate and prosperity (shown with the horn of plenty).In the background of the coin, from the left to the right side, the main building of the National Bank is shown. The lower edge shows a band, reminding of the red-white-red colors of the Austrian flag: According to the rules of heraldry, a vertical shading symbolizes the color red.The years 1816 and 2016 (left to Mercury) stand for the creation of the National Bank and the 200th anniversary of it. On the bottom edge, “Republik Österreich” and “200 Jahre Österreichische Nationalbank” is written. The outer ring of the coin features the 12 stars of the EU.
